The 2018 Mazda CX-5 has been modified and revised for the new model year. One of the significant updates made to the CX-5 is the addition of the new cylinder-deactivation technology. This feature helps improve the 2018 Mazda CX-5 fuel economy ratings.

Mazda CX-5 Engine and Drive System

Powering the 2018 CX-5 will be Mazda’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine. This engine produces 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with the SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission. Drive systems include front-wheel drive and the available i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive system.

The engine includes the new cylinder-deactivation system. This system reduces fuel consumption by shutting down the engine’s two outside cylinders when the engine is at cruising speed.

Fuel economy ratings for the 2018 CX-5 will vary based on which drive system is selected. When equipped with front-wheel drive, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 earns fuel economy ratings estimated at 25 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highways for 28 mpg combined. Models equipped with the i-ACTIVE All-Wheel Drive system are estimated at 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highways for 26 mpg combined.
